The Dry Eye Relief Kit

The dry eye products we think are worth your money, grouped by what they do, each with its evidence grade and the thing most reviews leave out. Not sure which ones suit your eyes? Take the three-minute dry eye quiz and we’ll match picks to your type.

Heat and lid care

For evaporative dry eye, blepharitis and eyelid mites. The foundation of most routines. How to use them.

Heated eye mask

Bruder Moist Heat Eye Compress

A microwavable mask made to hold its warmth far longer than a washcloth, which cools within minutes. Steady warmth over several minutes is what thickened gland oil needs to soften.

Worth knowing. Test it on your wrist every time. Eyelid skin is thin and burns easily.

Hypochlorous acid lid cleanser

Avenova Lid & Lash Spray

0.01% hypochlorous acid, a mild antimicrobial your own white blood cells also produce. Spray onto a cotton pad and wipe along the lash line.

Worth knowing. Good for daily lid hygiene. It is not a proven Demodex treatment on its own.

Tea tree (terpinen-4-ol) lid wipes

Cliradex Lid Wipes

Uses terpinen-4-ol, the part of tea tree oil that is most active against Demodex mites, in a pre-measured wipe instead of a DIY mix.

Worth knowing. It can sting. Keep it on the lash line, out of the eye, and stop if your lids get more irritated.

Drops for oil layer dry eye

Oil-containing drops that slow evaporation. Best if your eyes get worse through the day and on screens.

Oil-based drop, preservative-free vials

Retaine MGD

A light mineral oil emulsion that tops up the oil layer, the one that fails in most dry eye. Single-use vials, so no preservatives.

Worth knowing. Like most oil drops it can blur your vision for a minute after you put it in.

Lipid drop, preservative-free bottle

Systane Complete PF

A lipid nano-emulsion aimed at the oil and water layers together, in a multi-dose bottle built to stay preservative-free. Handy if vials feel fiddly.

Worth knowing. Expect a moment of haze after each drop. It clears with a few blinks.

Oil-based drop, preservative-free vials

Refresh Optive Mega-3

Castor oil and flaxseed oil in single-use vials. A good next step if watery drops feel great for five minutes and then stop working.

Worth knowing. The omega-3 in the name is in the drop, not a supplement. It won’t replace anything you take by mouth.

Drops for low tear production

Gentle, preservative-free lubricants for frequent use and sensitive eyes.

Water-layer drop, preservative-free bottle

iVizia Lubricant Eye Drops

Povidone with hyaluronic acid and trehalose, preservative-free in a multi-dose bottle. Gentle enough to use many times a day.

Worth knowing. Water-layer drops alone often fall short if your oil glands are the real problem.

Water-layer drop, preservative-free vials

Refresh Plus

A plain carboxymethylcellulose drop in single-use vials. Nothing clever, which is exactly why it suits sensitive eyes.

Worth knowing. Wears off faster than thicker drops. Some people prefer it by day and a gel at night.

Night-time

If you wake up with sore, sticky or gritty eyes, protect them while you sleep.

Night ointment

Refresh P.M.

A preservative-free petrolatum and mineral oil ointment that protects the eye surface overnight. Useful if you wake up with sore, sticky eyes.

Worth knowing. It blurs your vision, so use it right before sleep only. It contains lanolin alcohols, which a few people are sensitive to.

Moisture chamber goggles

Tranquileyes Moisture Goggles

Foam-sealed goggles that trap humid air around your eyes. Worth trying if your eyes are worst on waking, you sleep near a fan or you use a CPAP mask.

Worth knowing. Research is thin. The logic is sound and the risk is low, but give it two weeks before judging.

Your surroundings, allergy and supplements

Humid air helps in dry, heated rooms. Itch points to allergy. And an honest word on omega-3.

Room humidifier

A small cool-mist humidifier

Central heating and air conditioning can pull indoor humidity low enough to speed up tear evaporation. A desk or bedside unit helps most in winter.

Worth knowing. Clean it every week. A dirty humidifier puts mold and bacteria into the air you breathe.

Allergy eye drop

Zaditor or Alaway (ketotifen)

If itching is your main complaint, allergy may be part of the picture. Ketotifen is an over-the-counter antihistamine drop that starts working within minutes.

Worth knowing. It contains a preservative and does not lubricate. Keep it separate from your dry eye drops.

Omega-3 supplement

PRN Dry Eye Omega Benefits

If you want to try omega-3, this is a high-dose, re-esterified form that many eye doctors suggest.

Worth knowing. The largest trial, DREAM, found fish oil did no better than an olive oil placebo. Try other steps first.

How we choose

We haven’t run our own clinical tests, and we won’t pretend we have. Each pick is chosen on what it contains, whether it’s preservative-free, the strength of the evidence behind that type of product, and what eye care professionals commonly recommend.

Every product carries the evidence grade for its category, and a plain note on its downsides. We show price bands instead of exact prices because they change daily. When a better option appears, or the evidence moves, we update the kit.
